VISTA Spotlight – Kirsten Spooner

Kirsten Spooner

My name is Kirsten Spooner and I am the AmeriCorps VISTA in the Student Life office focused on civic engagement and college access at NHTI-Concord’s Community College. I am from North Haverhill, NH and enjoy hiking, kayaking and being outdoors. I graduated with my Bachelors of Science in Business Administration with a concentration in Organizational Leadership from Southern NH University. During my time as an undergraduate student, I was heavily involved and dedicated to community service and encouraging my peers to become active citizens. My passion is to end social injustices by educating and coordinating undergraduate students so that they are proactive and make positive impacts on the community. My goal is to be conscientious and intentional with the work that college students and I are doing and assessing how well the work is meeting the needs of the community partner. During my time at NHTI, I have implemented a more formal college access program, supported the Alternative Spring Break Club, and coordinated one-time and on-going service projects for first generation college students with the Office of Student Life. My passion for social change has led me to pursue a Master of Arts in Community Development Policy and Practice at University of New Hampshire this fall and hope to continue on to non-profit leadership and community organizing.
