 What is AmeriCorps?

AmeriCorps is a federal program under the corporation for National and Community Service (CNCS), which involves Americans of all ages and backgrounds to foster civic responsibility in “getting things done.”  AmeriCorps is often called the “domestic Peace Corps.”  Nationwide, over 600 AmeriCorps programs engage over 75,000 “AmeriCorps Members” each year.  AmeriCorps members are not employees and cannot replace employees.  They are contracted direct community service providers, serving for a specific term, under a specific AmeriCorps “program,” with defined service activities.  Full time members receive federal stipends, education awards, health insurance, child care supplements if eligible, loan forbearance on qualified student loans, and payment of interest that accrued on student loans during service.  Service in AmeriCorps also provides opportunities for development of personal, professional, and leadership skills for members.  See for further information about AmeriCorps and CNCS.

 What is Green Corps?

Green Corps operates within communities to enhance the environmentally friendly practices starting locally.  Green Corps members provide education and training for youth and students about environmentally safe practices, and resource sustainability.  Members help to develop and enhance existing recycling programs in the state, and ensure that students are knowledgeable about the programs and how the community can benefit from them.  Green Corps members deliver workshops and information sessions to excite the students, youth and community members of New Hampshire to pursue their environmental interests as well as explore and research how to create and maintain a clean, healthy environment.

Would you like to join us?

AmeriCorps is looking for interested community non-profit organizations and educational institutions to host full time Green Corps Members. Host sites are asked to provide a $6,000 match to support the program goals.
