Art and Dialogue:  An Innovative Curriculum – Based Program

For the past five years the New England Center for Civic Life at Franklin Pierce University has led an innovative curriculum-based program that combines art and dialogue. Students work with faculty and a visiting artist to create a public participatory artwork which provides an unconventional pathway for community engagement. The project includes readings, writing assignments, storytelling, studio sessions, and deliberative forums. A multimedia celebration at the end may include film, light and/or sound installations, dance, and theatre.

During this hands-on workshop participants will:
· learn about this program and how it might be adapted for their institutions
· consider how the project can be integrated into a course and/or engage members of the community in a participatory art project.
· make their own storyboxes
