Designing Community Based Research Opportunities for Undergraduates This session will explore different implementation models of community-based research you might design to enable undergraduate students to engage in authentic research projects that teach vital research skills while providing a community partner with necessary data. The presenters will discuss their direct experiences developing and using these models,and share lessons learned in navigating the complexities of this work. In addition, you will be given an opportunity to develop your own project ideas and/or troubleshoot CBR initiatives already underway. Presenters: Dr. Trece Mettauer & Dr. Alison Paglia. Native American Program: Dartmouth College The Native American Program collaborates with Dartmouth’s faculty and staff, as well as tribal communities, to assist Native students in their personal, social, intellectual and ethical development so they can become life-long learners and responsible leaders in our global society. We complete our work with high regard for the unique cultural experiences and perspectives of Native peoples. This workshop will explore the various programs facilitated by Dartmouth College to educate and empower Native students including the Reader to Reader program and Occom Scholars. Annual Governor’s Conference on Volunteerism The annual Governor’s Conference on Volunteerism’s theme this year is: New Heights in Volunteer Management. The conference will address national competencies for professionals in the field of volunteerism. The keynote address will kick off the day featuring Katherine H. Campbell, the Executive Director of the Council for Certification in Volunteer Administration. Opportunities Community College National Center for Community Engagement 21st Annual Conference The theme for this year’s conference is Leaders Leading Leaders in Service Learning and Civic Engagement. There will be an emphasis within three major conference tracks: Leadership, Technology in Service, and Civic Learning & Democratic Engagement. The editors welcome submissions of articles, essays, and reflective pieces on service-learning from various points of view: students, faculty, agency mentors, and higher-education and non-profit community administration and staff. Documents may focus on studies, theory, practice, interdisciplinary collaboration, and school-community partnerships as they apply to service-learning.
